Established in 1996 as a non-profit organization, Marin Dance Theatre has become a nationally recognized school with outstanding programs for Children, Adults and Community Outreach, offering the finest classical ballet and contemporary dance education. Our innovative training programs – based on techniques developed over the last thirty years by our founding Artistic Director, Margaret Swarthout and School Director, Lynn Cox – have provided children ages 3-19 exceptional dance instruction in the most beautiful and nurturing environment.
This dance education center is located in Northern Marin County, in one of Northern California’s most spectacular pastoral settings, an historical 170-year old Spanish-style mission located twenty minutes north of the Golden Gate bridge. The St. Vincent Campus has enthralled visitors for years with its beautiful architecture and peaceful surroundings.
Enrolled in our year-round programs are students from various regions in California and the United States. When students graduate, some follow a career-bound path in the world of professional ballet; others enter university performing arts programs, and many choose to pursue dance as an avocation. Their experiences at Marin Dance Theatre will affect them well into their adult lifetime.
