Cotati Celebrates Oktoberfest

Weiner dogs were the darlings of the day, along with girls in German beer maiden outfits.

Oom-pah-pah was heard in Cotati Plaza on Saturday, as people danced and lifted their steins to Oktoberfest, a Cotati Chamber of Commerce event. People of all ages danced to Karl Lebherz's Bavarian band.

Lots of Daschund "weiner dogs" showed up with their owners. Some had a hard time figuring out the races or what the fuss was all about and preferred to relax and sip from water bowls dotted here and there.

One-year-old "Greta" made it into the semi-finals but "Rosie" got scared and didn't run. Rosie's owner, Lisa Roberts, didn't mind. "It was her first time," she said with a chuckle. "She didn't know what to do."

A few women showed up dressed as beer maidens. Among them were three roommates seen in our photo gallery.

I agree! Local, organic and let's become a more healthy community. Walmart is not doing anythingRead More good with selling cheaper things for our families when its going to make us sick in the long run.

The writer acknowledges no "cost" to the local community for its globalized retailing.Read More Walmart produces some jobs, and undercuts jobs at other local employers who can't compete with those low prices. THINK globally, but ACT locally! Purchase from those who keep more dollars in our community! That ain't Walmart!
