A Sense of Place, a TED-X Conference

TED Talks is coming to Sonoma County

What is a sense of a place? Why do we form such strong attachments to places? And how is that sense of place changing in the digital age?

Next Saturday, a TED-style conference is coming to Sonoma County, just up the road from Rohnert Park in Santa Rosa, but it promises to be a thought-provoking afternoon that will satisfy your intellectual hunger and bring you together with like-minded people.

It's called a TED-X event, an "independently organized TED conference." TED is a series of high profile, thought-provoking lectures on the common ground of Technology, Entertainment, and Design.

The June 16 event will be held at the Sonoma County Day School and feature speakers such as:

-Joseph Allen, former NASA astronaut who flew aboard the Columbia and Discovery shuttles,

-Benjamin Benson, an environmental anthropologist who has worked with museums throughout the world,

-Dana Gioia, the former chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts and an award-winning poet,

-Thomas Evan Levy, who leads the cyber-archaeology research group at the California Center of Telecommunications and Information Technology.

Doors open at 12:15 p.m., with speakers starting promptly at 1:00. Tickets are $40 and include a food and wine reception from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. For more info, visit their website.
