State Assemblymember Marc Levine Visits Credo High

Credo High School, Rohnert Park's public Waldorf high school, hosted state Assemblymember Marc Levine (D-San Rafael) on Thursday, November 7. Levine met with Credo parents to learn about the high-achieving charter school and discuss his efforts to improve funding for K-12 education in California.

“It was a pleasure to visit one of the newest and future-thinking charter schools in Sonoma County,” said Assemblymember Levine.  “I was very impressed by the students and their commitment to learn.  The faculty and administration take an innovative approach to education that is a great benefit to our community.  I applaud them in all their efforts.”

The Assemblyman was particularly pleased with Credo’s academic achievements—its 853 API score, third highest in Sonoma County, and the fact that all students are meeting the University of California’s A-G requirements, which allows them to apply directly to a U.C. or C.S.U. school.

Levine toured Credo classrooms, with brief visits to a ninth grade class about the history of human development through theater and a tenth grade inorganic chemistry lab. The focus of his time was spent with Credo’s eleventh grade, which had recently completed a civics class. Assemblyman Levin spoke with Credo students about the critical importance of an informed electorate, and impressed upon them the importance of voting as eighteen year olds. He also spoke about his role in the Assembly, detailing the work involved in his various committee assignments. When asked by Credo Director Chip Romer about his own path from high school to the state Assembly, Levine talked about his undergraduate studies at Cal State Northridge. While pursuing a master’s degree  at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, he created a software program that still in use internationally to track human rights abuses. When he married and had children, Levine preferred to stay closer to home and served three years on the San Rafael City Council before his election to the State Assembly in 2012.
